Watch – Zaniolo bids farewell to Roma: ‘Too much has been said, it was an honour’

Roma’s young Italian star Nicolo Zaniolo has said goodbye to the capital city after four memorable years with the Serie A side.

The 21-year-old forward’s time with the Giallorossi came to an end on Wednesday, as he completed his move to Serie A rivals Inter Milan, who paid €24 million for his services.

In a heartfelt message posted to his Instagram page, Zaniolo thanked Roma’s fans, players, and staff for their unwavering support throughout his time with the club.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped me grow during my time at Roma. It has been an honour to wear this jersey and I will always keep in my heart all the love and affection I have received from the fans, my teammates, and the staff,” he wrote.

“Too much has been said, but I want to say that I will always carry Roma in my heart.”

Zaniolo’s career with Roma began in the summer of 2017, when the club signed him from Serie B side Entella in a €4.5 million deal. He quickly settled in to life in the capital city, making his Roma debut in January 2018.

He made a total of 96 appearances for the Giallorossi in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 assists. He also made his debut for the Italian national team in March 2019.

Zaniolo’s time at Roma may have come to an end, but the 21-year-old will no doubt be fondly remembered by the club’s supporters. He leaves Roma having become one of the most highly rated young players in Europe, and his departure will no doubt leave a big hole in the Giallorossi’s squad.
