Study Shows Video Game Playing Has No Negative Impact on Young Children’s Cognitive Abilities

Study Finds Video Game Playing Causes No Harm to Young Children’s Cognitive Abilities

Recent studies have found that playing video games can have no negative effect on young children’s cognitive abilities. According to a study published in the journal Pediatrics, playing video games can help to improve children’s problem-solving skills and creativity.

The study included over 3,000 children between the ages of two and five and examined how much time they spent playing video games. Researchers found that the amount of time spent playing was not associated with any negative impacts on children’s cognitive abilities.

Interestingly, the study found that the more time children spent playing video games, the better their problem-solving skills and creativity were. This suggests that video games can be a useful tool to help children develop cognitive skills.

The lead author of the study, Professor Andrew Przybylski, stated that “the study underscores that video games are not necessarily harmful for young children and that there is a complex relationship between video game playing, cognitive skills and well-being”. He went on to note that the findings of the study indicate that video games can be used to help children to develop their cognitive skills.

So, while there is still much research that needs to be done on the topic, it appears that playing video games can have no negative impact on young children’s cognitive abilities. This means that parents can rest assured that playing video games is not putting their children at risk of any negative impacts to their development.
