Multiple Crashes Reported on Icy Roads Southeast of Indianapolis

State police report multiple crashes on icy roads southeast of Indianapolis

A series of crashes occurred on icy roads in the southeastern region of Indianapolis on Thursday morning as a result of icy roads.

At least three separate crashes were reported along Interstate 74 just east of Shelbyville around 7:30 a.m. According to the Indiana State Police, the crashes involved at least six vehicles.

Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, and seven other people were uninjured.

The roadway was closed for about an hour while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene and investigate the crashes.

The crashes were likely caused due to icy roads, as temperatures had dropped below freezing overnight and icy patches had formed on the roads.

The Indiana State Police are urging drivers to use caution when driving on icy roads, including reducing speed, increasing following distance, and avoiding sudden braking or accelerating.

Drivers should also be aware of the potential for icy roads and take the necessary precautions to prevent crashes.
