The Handmaiden is a film that is visually stunning and often gripping. It tells the story of a young woman, Haines, who is taken from her home and forced into the household of a rich man, Count Ostermann. Haines quickly learns that she is to be the new handmaiden to Count Ostermann’s daughter, Lady Hideko. Haines befriends Hideko and helps her to heal from the abuse inflicted by her father. However, when Ostermann dies, Hideko is left with a lot of debt and Haines is Forced to work to repay the debt. The situation becomes even more complicated when Haines discovers that Hideko is in fact the illegitimate daughter of the previous Count and that she is in line to inherit his fortune. Haines must decide whether to help Hideko claim her rightful inheritance or to betray her and protect her own interests.

The Handmaiden is an intense and visually stunning tale of love, revenge and violence. It is definitely something different that I recommend if you’re in the mood for something new and exciting to watch. Thanks for reading!
