Southampton appointed Spaniard as manager until end of season
Southampton appointed Spaniard as manager until end of season on Thursday, with the option of a further year. The Spaniard, who has been with the club since its inception, will take over from Claude Puel, who was sacked on Monday.
The Saints have been in a poor run of form this season, with only one win in their last six games. They are also five points behind fourth-placed Newcastle.
The appointment of the Spaniard comes as a surprise, as Puel was widely respected within the club. He has been in charge of Valencia and Real Madrid, and has been successful in both jobs.
The Saints have been linked with a number of managerial jobs this season, with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp, and Antonio Conte being mentioned. However, Southampton have not been willing to spend any money on a new manager, and are instead looking to keep Puel. #NEWS
