If you’re one of the thousands of Americans who recently experienced a disruption to their Facebook and Instagram services, you’re not alone! Meta is here to help and provide some insight into why Facebook and Instagram experienced a large outage for thousands of U.S. users on Monday.

According to Downdetector, which monitors outages for major websites and services, Facebook experienced a major disruption to its services on Monday. Starting at around 10:30AM Pacific Time, thousands of users reported difficulties using the platform, specifically having trouble signing in, posting, and loading the news feed. Approximately two hours later, Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, also began experiencing similar issues.

It is still unclear what caused the outage, however, Facebook and Instagram have both issued statements saying they are working to resolve the issue quickly. Facebook also noted that the disruption was a result of a technical issue, not a security breach or attack.

We understand how frustrating it can be to experience an outage, especially for services as essential as Facebook and Instagram. Fortunately, the issue appears to have been resolved and all services seem to be running smoothly. In the meantime, Meta will be keeping an eye on the situation and provide updates if more outages occur.
